Details of Competition

Men's division and women's division

Each district may nominate 3 men's teams and 3 women's teams (each team consisting of 3 to 6 players).

Each district may nominate a maximum of 36 players, 648 players in total.

Participating athletes must be aged 12 or above (i.e. born in or before 2012).
A team of 6 players must include 2 youth players aged 18 or below (born between 2006 and 2012); a team of 5 players or below must include 1 youth player.

• The preliminary round will adopt a single round-robin format. Each of the 18 districts shall nominate 3 teams. The 54 teams will be divided by ballot into 18 groups consisting of 3 districts each.
• The semi-finals (18 teams) and the final will adopt a single-elimination format.
• As 3-on-3 basketball is a new event in the 9th HKG, the 18 districts will be assigned to the schedule by ballot.
• The top 4 districts of this event in the 9th HKG will have their teams designated as seed teams in the next HKG. The best performing teams of those districts will be assigned to 4 different groups first as seed teams. The 8 non-seed teams from the 4 districts and the 42 teams from the remaining 14 districts (i.e. a total of 50 teams) will be divided into groups and assigned to the remaining spots in the schedule by ballot.
